A few weeks ago I asked MH4C readers to suggest their favorite books of 2011. Now, we’re going to turn that list into some reading suggestions.
However, let me begin by saying that this list is not my recommended reading list. I was actually hoping for more overlap so I could pull out some of the most frequently recommended books, but no luck.
Craig’s Top 9 Recommended Books of 2011
7 Habits of Highly Effective People and First Things First by Stephen Covey
I think anything by Covey is really helpful in terms of setting goals, giving your life direction, and learning to be productive.
Surprised by Hope by N.T. Wright
A book that caused me to rethink heaven and to help me develop a good theology of the importance of changing our world.
Your Money or Your Life by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin
I didn’t read this in 2011, but it is a book about finances that I think everyone should read. Of course, I like to add a Christian track to the reasons for some of these things, but I think the book will point you in the right direction.
Money, Possessions and Eternity by Randy Alcorn
A solid primer on Biblical finances. I’d say it is the place to start if you want to learn about the Bible and Money.
Weird by Craig Groeschel
I’m weird, so I like reading about books that encourage others to be weird. I don’t want to look like everyone else, and I feel like God has blessed us for it.
Counterfeit Gods by Timothy Keller
This book challenged and personally convicted me. It forced me to look in the mirror and identify the things in my life that were competing with God. I highly recommend it.
EntreLeadership by Dave Ramsey
Ramsey runs his business in a very intentional way. I think he provides entrepreneurs with some important perspective about how you ought to be running your business.
Why You Can’t Be Anything You Want to Be by Arthur Miller
Since I’ve been trying to discern what I’m going to ‘do’ when we leave the mission field, I’ve found this book to be helpful in terms of finding your life purpose and career development.
MH4C Reader Recommendations
I put an asterisk beside the books I would personally recommend. I do want to say that there are some books on this list that I would not read or recommend. But, I don’t want to call out any readers who were kind enough to share their suggestions.
