The Best Price on TurboTax for the 2012 Tax Year

Update: As of March 23, 2013 Turbo Tax increased their prices.  This post has been updated to reflect the new prices.

When I know I’m going to buy something, I like to get the best possible price.  For years, I’ve used TurboTax to do my taxes.  This post includes what my research has turned up as I’ve scoured the web for the best TurboTax discount for the 2012 tax year.

Best TurboTax Price for the 2012 Tax Year

Our first job is to establish the regular TurboTax prices.  TurboTax has two pricing tiers.  You can purchase a downloadable or CD version of the product.  This is a more expensive approach.

• Basic = $29.99 $39.99
• Deluxe = $59.99 $69.99
• Premier = $89.99 $99.99
• Home and Business = $99.99 $109.99

If you prefer (and last year was the first year I tried it), you can also file your taxes online with TurboTax.  This is a cheaper way to do your taxes.

• Basic = $19.99 $34.99
• Deluxe = $29.99 $44.99
• Premier = $49.99 $74.99
• Home and Business = $74.99 $99.99

Since I don’t mind (in fact I like) doing my taxes online, I’m going to see what’s the best price I can find for an online version of Home and Business.  The price to beat is $99.99.

Important State Tax Acknowledgement: Your price search should include a consideration for state tax forms.  I live in Wyoming where I don’t file state taxes, so my consideration will ignore that factor.  If you need something with state tax filing included, you’ll need to check out your best pricing options.

TurboTax Discounted Products at Amazon.com

Amazon.com is a great place to start checking for publicly available discounted products.  In fact, based on my research as of March 26th, 2013 the best prices are on Amazon.com.

Buying a downloadable Home and Business TurboTax at Amazon would cost about $60 (for some reasons the price fluctuates a little bit) for either a Mac or PC version.  This is about a 40% discount.  This will be your best bet, as it includes State 2012.  Again, that’s not important to me, but it may be to you.

Sam’s Club or Costco Turbo Tax Discounted Product

I’m not a Costco Member, so I can’t verify their prices.  However, I learned that you can get a Home and Business Turbo Tax with State 2012 for $79.99 at Sam’s Club.

That’s a pass for me.

I also checked walmart.com and found that the Home and Business product was $93.97, so I didn’t pursue that any further. 22 agosto 2022

Several Ways to Get up to $20 off Turbo Tax 2012

State Farm $20 Discount (Open to All)

State Farm bank customers can get free access to TurboTax 2012 tax preparation. Since I’m not a member, I can’t confirm which version they are offering for free.  In the past, it was Deluxe filing for free.

If, however, you are not a State Farm customer, you can still use their link for visitors to get up to $20 off your Turbo Tax Product.

Through the State Farm link you can get Home and Business (online) for $79.99.  This is only for the Federal tax filing.  You would pay an additional $36.99 for State 2012 filing.

That’s definitely more than you can buy it through Amazon with or without State 2012.

Fidelity TurboTax Discount $20 (Open to All)

You can get the exact same price for the TurboTax products through the Fidelity website as you can get through the State Farm Discount.

Chase also has a dedicated page where you can access TurboTax at up to a $20 discount.

Where to Get the Best Price on TurboTax for the 2012 Tax Year

1. If you are looking for Home and Business without State 2012, Amazon.com has the best price at around $60.
2. If you are looking for Home and Business with State 2012, Amazon.com has the best price at around $60.

Yesterday I purchase TurboTax Home and Business Mac Downloadable from Amazon and paid $59.72.  Today the Mac Downloadable version is $60.60.  I’m not sure what causes the minor fluctuation.
